Ethics and Applied Ethics

at the Department of Philosophy

Research in ethics and applied ethics at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Vienna focuses primarily on current internationally important themes. Yet, we also connect current themes with the “big questions” in ethics: What is a good argument? How can principles and norms be reasoned? And what do persons owe to each other? We study texts from the beginning of the Western philosophical tradition up to today. The research group hosts a range of projects that focus on issues as diverse as plant ethics, animal welfare, and the ethics of war.
